Assembling the Tapestry

A team of six worked to place all of the finished panels made during the weaving together into one large piece. Each panel was stiched to its neighbor with narrow borders and sewn to a backing. The top of the backing was attached to another piece of cloth which had small side snaps. The pieces were now an altar frontal - the fabric which hangs down over the front of the altar during worship services. The tapestry panels would be the front, visible part of the frontal. The top piece of cloth would rest on the altar. The side snaps would be used to attach the entire frontal to the altar. Two additional panels were bordered and prepared for hanging on the pulpit and lectern. Small threads were laced between the front and back pieces of the tapestry. The threads were left loose. Tying knots in them would be the final step in joining the front and back panels - the final step in making the tapestry. Next.. Presenting the Tapestry to the Parish....
