The Chancel ChoirThe Chancel Choir is a wonderful group of people that gather each week to lead our congregation in worship. Through the use of various styles of music in terms of anthems, hymns, psalmody, and responses, the choir seeks to bring the experience of Christ to the congregation through the use of music. All are welcomed to sing with us! We have those that can read music in the choir and those that never read music before joining the choir! Our main rehearsal is on Sunday morning at 8:45 am. We also rehearse on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m.for those who are able to come in the evening. Following our Thursday rehearsal, we gather in the Chapel for a short Compline and pray for those we love. Dr. Joseph Eppink

Music has long been an important part of worship at St. Andrew's. The St. Andrew's Choir provides reverent accompaniment to the liturgy with hymns, psalms, and anthems of musical praise. There is a place for everyone in our choirs. Come make a joyful noise unto the Lord! The Russell Field Concert SeriesIn addition to regular service music with choir and organ, sometimes piano, the musical offering at St. Andrew's includes occasional sacred concerts from an endowed series named in memory of Russell Field, our organist and choirmaster from 1947 until 1976, and recitals given by music students from the College of St. Rose. Russell Field was Organist/Choirmaster from 1947–1976. His legacy lives on through a fund which was created in his honor. This fund is used to provide extraordinary opportunities for recitals, concerts, and special liturgies. Instrumentalists, soloists, and music are provided for using this resource. Several Evensongs and recitals have occurred because of this fund. In 2009, the church hosted the choirs of The College of Saint Rose Masterworks Chorale, The College of Saint Rose Women's Chorale, The Albany Gay Men's Choir and our own Chancel Choir. The choirs performed individually and then combined to perform the Schubert “Mass in G.” Dr. Elizabeth Lehmann (conductor) worked with Dr. Joseph Eppink (organ) and a string quartet for this wonderful occasion. The audience was encouraged to bring their own score to sing along! March 7, 2010 will be the next occasion with combined choirs. Please contact Dr. Joseph Eppink, jaeppink at hotmail.com, for more information. |
