Focus on Ministry
This Sunday the first of the four Ministry Sundays will take place,
focusing on the Education Ministries at St. Andrew's. Six ministries,
Adult Faith Formation, Daughters of the King, Integrity Congregation
Circle, Nursery, Teen Group and Youth Ministries, work to help members
of the parish grow in their faith through education and prayer.
Join the Education Ministries this Sunday to learn more about how you
can get involved.
Discovering Your Spiritual Personality Type
Sunday
after the 10 a.m. service the Adult Faith Formation Committee is
holding a forum looking at the popular Myers Briggs personality type
with respect to our spiritual lives. Learn more about why you may be
drawn to certain spiritual practices and religious activities and how
to best challenge yourself to grow in a new way.
Partners in Outreach Partners
in Outreach will meet again on Saturday, September 19 (rescheduled from
September 12) at Grace and Holy Innocents at 9:00 am. To read more
about Partners in Outreach, including a descriptions of our visit to
the Capital City Rescue Mission, visit our blog.
Love Thy Neighborhood
The first Love Thy Neighborhood dinner of the new season will take
place this Thursday evening. Doors will open at 5:15 and dinner will be
served from 5:30 until 6:30. Volunteers are need before, during and
after the dinner - come share a meal and some of the workload! There
are a variety of jobs that need doing. If you can't make it to this
month's dinner, please consider volunteering to join one of the teams
working on future dinners. Help is always needed - see Jeff Haugaard
for more details.
Confirmation Class
A confirmation class for teens ages 13 - 18 is being considered for
this fall. All interested teens and their parents are invited to a
brief meeting to discuss the particulars - Sunday after the 10 a.m.
service in the Children's Chapel.
St. Francis Sunday
St.
Francis loved every living thing in God's creation. We honor him today
as a patron saint of the environment. Blessed Francis reminds us that
we are stewards of God's creation. Sunday October 4th we will celebrate
the life of St. Francis by being stewards of our own plot of land! Come
ready to pitch in after the 10 am service as we take care of the fall
chores outside the church.
Parking Reminder
Parking at St. Andrew's is a challenge! During the week there are only
a few spaces in the church lot. Because of the demand for on-street
parking we occasionally get non-churchgoers using the lot. To ensure
that the few spaces we have are available for parishioners and our
tenants at New Visions we tow cars without St. Andrew's parking
permits. If you do not have one you can obtain one from the Parish
Office. Sunday parking is available at the St. Rose lot adjacent to the
church lot (accessible from Western Ave.)
Condolences Stephen
Smith, son of Julia and Bob Smith, died this past week: May light
perpetual shine upon him. Services will be held at the Schoharie Reformed Church Saturday at 10:00 a.m. - an obituary and information can be found here. Please keep Julia, Bob, Stephen's wife and two sons and all of the Smith family in your prayers.
Community Picnic
Many
thanks to everyone who made this years picnic such a success! From
set-up to clean-up members of the parish worked hard to create a
wonderful event. Special kudos go to Martha Iannacone for coordinating
things and to Len Sipple for acting as grillmaster. Photos from the
picnic can be found on line here.
